Hey!
Welcome to Saugatuck, Michigan! I started this blog to share my love for spending summers on the coast of Michigan!
My first trip to Saugatuck was back in 2014, when the hubs took me to visit his family for a few days prior to driving to Chicago for a wedding. With only a few days, I got a good overview of the town and just enough to make me want to come back again!
I was enamored by the weather, the scenery and overall “feel-good” that is so hard to explain in words.
Weather: Born and raised a Florida girl, I am pretty accustomed to the heat, but as I get a bit older, I realize taking a break up north from the Florida humidity and 90-degree temperatures, is totally worth it! Walking around town, I was comfortable wearing my shorts and t-shirt during the day. However, if we leave the house first thing in the morning, I always bring a sweatshirt to break the morning chill off the lake.
The Scenery: The town of Saugatuck consists of about 7 or 8 streets filled with a really nice variety of shoppes and restaurants. I really enjoy an afternoon stroll both window shopping and popping in to a few of my favorite shoppes! Adjacent to the Kalamazoo River, Saugatuck marinas offer docks for the many boaters who call Saugatuck their summer home. What does this mean for me? I get to enjoy one of my most favorite pastimes, walking the docks with the hubs and looking at all the boats!
Overall “feel-good”: So this is hard to explain… have you ever been somewhere on vacation, and you just felt SAFE? My hometown in Florida isn’t a scary place full of criminals or anything, but the surrounding community as a whole does exude more crime than I care to hear about on the news. But in Saugatuck, I feel SAFE! I took my hunch to Google to learn:
The overall crime rate in Saugatuck is 67% lower than the national average. For every 100,000 people, there are 2.49 daily crimes that occur in Saugatuck. Saugatuck is safer than 69% of the cities in the United States. In Saugatuck you have a 1 in 111 chance of becoming a victim of any crime.
